1928 The first Lone Troop was established in Valparaiso.
1933 The first continuing troop was formed in Gary. (Troop 1)
1934 Two Lone Troops were formed in Chesterton.
1936 The first Girl Scout Cookie Sale was held in Valparaiso. The first one-week camping session was held at Indiana Dunes State Park with 50 Gary girls attending. The first charter was issued to five Lone Troop in Gary with a total of 207 girls.
1937 Dorthea Carlton was hired as the first full-time director.
1938 Camp Tepicon at Tippecanoe State Park was leased with 500 girls camping there.
1944 Grace Ritson became Director of Gary Girl Scouts.
1946 The original property for Camp Meadowbrook was purchased at Highway 12 and 149 in Porter County.
1954 Valaparaiso Council and Gary Council combine to make East-Lake Porter County Girl Scout Council which was to become the Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council.
1956 One council patrol attended the first Roundup in Highland Park, Michigan.
1963 The original Camp Meadowbrook was sold to Bethlehem Steel Company and a new site was bought on 700 North in Porter County.
1975 "Bubble, Bubble, Toil, and Trouble," a National Wider Opportunity was held at Camp Red Mill.
1979 The East Lake-Porter Counties Council became Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council.
1980 The council service center was moved to 4207 Cleveland Street in Glen Park.
1983 Cathy Darstek from Chesterton became the first Gold Award Recipient.
1986 The council service center was moved to Camp Meadowbrook.
1987 The council celebrated 75 years of Girl Scouting, with an event at Southlake Mall.
2002 The Council Service Center moved to 8699 Broadway in Merrillville.
