Grandparents Day 2007
On Saturday morning, December 1, 2007, Girl Scouts and their families enjoyed participating in ‘Grandparents Day’ at the Girl Scout Service Center in Merrillville. Activities and refreshments in the program center and great discounts in the Council shop made for a festive day. ‘Santa Bingo’ was popular with the crowd and girls took time to write holiday greetings to members of the military serving our country abroad.

DDGSC’s goal is to engage all our community stakeholders in fund development for the benefit of the Council’s objectives. Our annual cookie sale and United Way contributions are only a part of the sum needed to maintain our high quality programs and facilities. We must raise operating funds through a variety of other means, including grants from foundations, corporate support, annual giving donations and by encouraging our girl and adult members’ families in making a conscious decision to support Girl Scouting through monetary gifts.

But we also want to make it fun, too! That’s why we put on events such as the Sweetheart Skate, Deep River Water Park Girl Scout night and the Fall Happy Harvest at Camp Meadowbrook. So pack up the kids, a few friends or relatives and join us for a fun-draising good time!

Bag it Up for Goodwill!

Goodwill 1

Girl Scouts of the Calumet Council and Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council teamed up in March of 2007 for a ‘Bag it Up’ clothing drive for Goodwill Industries of Michiana in recognition of Girl Scout Week. Girl Scouts and their families dropped off items in Hammond and earned a participation patch just for cleaning out their closets!

You Can Make A Difference

Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council and EnviroSmart, Inc. are working together to help keep as much waste as possible out of our landfills.

It is a fact that every year over 400 million printer cartridges are discarded into our nation's landfills, taking up valuable space and wasting precious resources. Through a unique recycling program sponsored by EnviroSmart, Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council can earn up to $80,000 to help with renovations at Camp Meadowbrook. Camp Meadowbrook is the Council's 79-acre camp property located in Valparaiso where our members as well as outside groups can visit and enjoy nature at its best.

To participate in this worthwhile program there are just three simple steps that need to be followed:

1. Obtain a special pre-addressed, postage paid envelope from the Council service center located at 8699 Broadway in Merrillville.

2. Place your empty ink jet cartridges in the envelope and drop it in the mail.

3. EnviroSmart will scan and record each donation and then send the Council a monthly check of up to $1.00 per cartridge to be used towards the renovations at Camp Meadowbrook.
